An accessible, origami-inspired model for obstetric laceration education

The Paper Perineum is a free, educational model that can be printed, cut, and folded into a three-dimensional shape representing the vagina, perineum, and anal sphincter complex

Accessible everywhere

Originally designed for use on labor and delivery units, the Paper Perineum is the most accessible three-dimensional model for obstetric laceration education.

No specialized materials required

The Paper Perineum model is printed on standard letter paper and assembled using scissors and a stapler. Model construction can be completed in less than 1 minute.

Simulate different types of lacerations

Different portions of the model can be excised to simulate a variety of obstetric lacerations, including:

  • Perineal lacerations
  • Obstetric anal sphincter injuries
  • Vaginal sulcal lacerations
  • Episiotomies

Teach the fundamentals of perineal anatomy and laceration repair

Use the model to teach the three-dimensional planes of perineal lacerations, suture needle placement and orientation, and other surgical repair concepts.
